Shamcey Supsup: Christmas wish, family first

by Luis A. Quibranza

Miss Universe third runner-up Shamcey Supsup knows what it’s like to be away from family. Born an only child, the 25 year old’s childhood memories were filled with moments growing up in the farm with her dad, while her mother—being an OFW engineer, was more often than not away from home.

So with that said, she is making sure she’s going to spend this year’s Christmas—the right and only way she thinks she should—enjoying it with her family.

“I would be spending Christmas this year with my family in our place at Manila,” she replied when asked about her plans this month during a recent interview held at the Bluewater Maribago resort.

She also adds that the upcoming holidays would be her first “significant break” since the Miss Universe
pageant held at Sao Paolo, Brazil.

“Yes because, when I got back from the pageant, I stayed in General Santos for about two days only. So I wasn’t really able to spend a lot of time with my family.”

“Even now, when both my parents are in Manila already, I still rarely get to see them because I always arrive home late from all the events I have to attend to.”

So her simple solution? She blocked a few weeks in advance to be able to spend some quality time with her family. Part of the plan might be spending the holidays in Hongkong.

Besides the company of loved ones, here are a few more things that, according to the beauty queen, makes her Christmas complete: her favorite Christmas tune would be Kumukutikutitap by Ryan Cayabyab, and her favorite food for the holidays would be none other than: Lechon roasted from no place else but Cebu.

“We really ask for it to be delivered talaga—masarap!” she affirms.

Shamcey’s Christmas wish?

“This goes out especially for families who are far from each other, sana they have that time talaga to be together. Kasi it’s about that time with family—‘yun naman talaga yung importante. It’s not about the gifts or just the mere celebrations, it’s about being with your family and celebrating Christmas with them.”
