Patio Party season

Thai bistro

Spring is in the air in the West Coast and people are beginning to don their shorts and sandals for what they call as patio season. In countries where there is winter, the spring is greatly anticipated. That means it is time for spring cleaning, for tucking away the thick winter coats and bulky boots for some light clothes and pretty sandals.

In Vancouver, one establishment that has created a Patio season following is Urban Thai bistro, situated at Vancouver’s trendiest restaurant and party district called Yaletown. Yaletown was an industrial area but with investors like Rize’s William Hui who is from Taiwan and other pioneering real estate developers, the area has blossomed into one of the happening parts of this cosmopolitan city.

Urban Thai Bistro is a modern restaurant that serves kick ass Thai dishes. And to launch patio season, they have #pregamefridays, where partying starts with the beats of DJ Bernard at 930pm. At this time, happy hour kicks in with appetizers at only $6 which are considered insanely cheap for this city. The uber tender grilled pork cheeks with a side of homemade seafood lime chili sauce is a winner. The Calamari with its salt and pepper taste, is a guaranteed must, too. The chicken satay, served with housemade peanut sauce is also a popular choice. There is yam fries with a choice of curry or tom yum sauce. Tom Yum sauce is a derivative from the popular Thai soup made with shrimp paste, lemon, seafood, kaffir lime, galanggal.

For $8, there is the popular som tum salad, made of green papaya slivers, with green beans, carrots, and sprinkled with peanuts with thai lime cilanto dressing. There are other choices for happy hour but these ones prove to be knock out best sellers.
